PODIKUNJU MUSALIAR MEMORIAL TRUST

 

The Podikunju Musaliar Memorial Charitable and Educational Trust was founded by philanthropist Industrialist Shri. M. Abdul Azeez in 2001, and has taken great strides towards the provision of qualitative medical education.  The Azeezia Medical college, Azeezia Dental college and College of Nursing are all set up in a beautiful scenic 50 acre campus at Meeyannoor, just 18 kilometers from Kollam City.

The College was started in 2005 & 2006 academic year with an annual intake of forty students. The under graduate dental training programme leading to  BDS degree shall be a minimum of 5 years of study and 6 months Compulsory Rotatory Residency Internship. Degree may be awarded only after completing Internship.  During this period, the student shall be required to have engaged in full time study Our college  is approved by the Government of Kerala, Dental Council of India and affiliated to university of Kerala.

 

The college has fully furnished and equipped class rooms, laboratories, Clinics, library and all other infrastructure including a multi-purpose hall and a conference/seminar hall, all in accordance with the specifications of the Dental Council of India.

Besides a well qualified and experienced Principal, there are a number of qualified and devoted Professors, Associate Professors ( Readers), Asst. Professors and Sr. Lecturers to impart such theoretical and clinical education for both dental subjects like dental Prosthodontics, Orthodontics, Conservative Dentistry, Periodontics, Pedodontics, Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine & Radiology, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Community Dentistry  and Medical subjects  like Anatomy, Physiology, , Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, General Medicine, General Surgery & Forensic Sciences.

 

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

 

Goals:-

The dental graduate during training in the institution should acquire adequate knowledge, necessary skills and reasonable attitudes which are required for carrying out all activities appropriate tom general dental practice, involving the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of anomalies and diseases of the teeth, mourn, jaws and associated tissues.  The graduate also should understand the concept of community oral health education and be able to participate in the oral health care delivery programmes existing in the country.

Objectives:-

The objectives are dealt under three headings. a) Knowledge and understanding

b) Skills and   c) attitudes.

A) Knowledge and understanding:- The graduate should acquire the following during the period of training.

1.         Adequate knowledge of the scientific foundations on which dentistry is based and good understanding of various relevant scientific methods, principles of biological function and be able to evaluate and analyze d scientifically various established facts and date.

2.         Adequate knowledge of the development, structure and function of the teeth, mouth and jaws and associated tissues both in health and disease and their relationship and effect on general state of health and also bearing on physical and social well being of the patient.

3.         Adequate knowledge of clinical disciplines and methods which provide a coherent picture of anomalies, lesions and diseases of the teeth, mouth and jaws and preventive diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of dentistry.

4.         Adequate clinical experience required for general dental practice.

5.         Adequate knowledge of the constitution, biological function and behaviour of persons in health and sickness as well as the influence of the natural and social environment on the state of health in so far as it affect dentistry.

B) Skills:- A graduate should be able to demonstrate the following skills necessary for practice of dentistry

1.         Able to diagnose and manage various common dental problems encountered in general dental practice keeping in mind the expectations and the right of the society to receive the best possible treatment available wherever possible.

2.         Acquire the skill to pre4vent and manage complications if encountered while carrying out various surgical and other procedures.

3.         Possess skill to carry out certain investigative procedures and ability to interpret laboratory findings.

4.         Promote oral health and help prevent oral diseases where possible.

5.         Competent in the control of pain and anxiety among the patients during dental treatment.

C) Attitudes:- a graduate should develop during the following attitudes.

1.         Willing to apply the current knowledge of dentistry in the best interest of the patients and the community.

2.         Maintain a high standard of professional ethics and conduct and apply these in all aspects of professional life.

3.         Seek to improve awareness and provide possible solutions for oral health problems and needs through out the community.

4.         Willingness to participate in the CPED Programmes to update the knowledge and professional skill from time to time.

5.         To help and participate in the implementation of the national oral health policy.

 

 

ADMISSION CRITERIA:

 

A candidate must be an Indian National and shall have passed 10+2 examination after a period of 12 years of study conducted by Boards/Councils/Intermediate examination established by State Governments/Central Government and recognized as equivalent to two year Pre University examination by the Association of Indian Universities with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects.  The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually also.

The candidate shall have obtained not less than 50 % of the aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together at the qualifying examination.  Scheduled cast and Scheduled tribe students shall be given relaxation of 10 % in the aggregate marks required for eligibility.  Candidate should have secured minimum of 50 % marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together at the competitive entrance examination where such examinations are held for selection.  The candidate shall have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before 31st Decemberof the year in which he/she seeks admission.

 

HOW TO APPLY

 

1. The candidate who seeks admission in Azeezia college of Dental Sciences & Research, Meeyannoor under management quota should submit an application forms in the prescribed form available in the website and in the college office.

2. Should reach the college office.

3. The schedule of date will change subject to latest rules and regulation and will be notified in the website .

4. The following documents (Photocopies) should be forwarded along with the application form.

 

  • Copies of mark list.
  • Certificates to prove date of birth.
  • Conduct / character certificate.
  • Eligibility certificate.

REGULATIONS

 

 

1.                  University examination shall be conducted every year.

2.                  Candidate who have undergone the prescribed course to study for a period not less than 10 months of the academic year only can appear for the examination.  No Candidate shall be admitted to any part of examination unless he/she has secured a minimum of 80% or above attendance for classes as well as practical in each subject.

3.                  A candidate, who is absent for a total of more than 60 days continuously within a period of three months during an academic year, shall not be eligible to continue the course with the same batch of students

4.                  Minimum pass marks shall be 50% for internal examination.

5.                  Minimum pass marks shall be 50% in each of the Theory and practical papers separately for University examination.

6.                  A candidate must have minimum of 80% attendance in theory and practical in subject of appearing for examination.

7.                  A candidate has to pass in theory or practical exam separately in each of the paper.

8.                  If a candidate fails in either theory or practical paper he/she has to reappear for both the papers (Theory and Practical)

9.                  A candidate failing in more than one subject will not be promoted to the next year.

10.              Candidate who fails in any paper or part in the examination may appear for that paper.  No candidate shall be admitted to the subsequent higher examination unless he/she has passed the previous examination.  For eg. No candidate shall be admitted to II BDS examination unless he/she has passed the first year BDS degree Examination.

 

Second Class: Candidates who have passed the examination with an aggregate of 50% and above.

First Class: Those who have secured 60 % marks aggregate of above.

Distinction: Those students who have secured aggregate 70 or above marks be awarded distinction.  Candidates who pass in the First Class and who obtain not less than 70 % of the marks in any subject shall be deemed to have passed with distinction in that subject.

Rank in the Examination: Aggregate marks of all the 5 years regular examinations shall be considered for awarding rank for the BDS examination.

(A consolidated mark list consisting of marks of all 5-year examination shall be  given to all students).

 

 

PTA

 

The PTA of Azeezia College of Dental Science & Research aims to foster and promote good relationship among the parents, members of the teaching staff and students. The PTA functions to create a keen interest in members for the smooth working and progress of the college and for maintaining good discipline and high academic standard.

 

 

DISCIPLINE AND RULES

Students are required to observe order and silence at all times in the college especially during working hours.

Students should be punctual for lectures, practical classes and Clinical work.

Students are expected to assemble in the classroom 5 minutes before the beginning of the class when the name shall be called and absence of any students noted.

No students shall be absent from class unless such absence is satisfactorily explained.  Leave application should be submitted before availing the leave and should state clearly the ground for the leave, number of days and the dated for which leave is required.

If for unavoidable circumstances, leave cannot be obtained in advance, the reason should be explained at the earliest opportunity available.

 

RAGGING IN ANY FORM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE THE CAMPUS OR IN THE HOSTEL IS CONSIDERED AS A CRIMINAL OFFENCE AND ANYONE FOUND INDULGING IN RAGGING IN ANY FORM SHALL BE EXPELLED FROM THE INSTITUTIONS AS PER THE KERALA PROHIBITION OF RAGGING ORDINANCE, 1997.

Use of Cell phone is not allowed in the College Campus.

 

Dress code/Uniform

All students hall come to the college properly and neatly dressed.  Students have to wear prescribed uniform while they are in class rooms and in the clinicals.

FEES STRUCTURE: The College levies fees as fixed by the Fees Regulatory Committee of the government of Kerala.

ADMINISTRATION: The College is a full fledged Institution under the management of the Chairman of the Trust.  The Principal is the administrative head of the Azeezia College of  Dental Sciences & Research who is responsible to the Chairman.

HOSTEL FACILITIES: Well furnished hostel facilities are available to students, in the campus itself.  Nutritious and hygienically prepared veg. & non-Veg. food is supplied on reasonable and monthly payment.
